Abraham Luzzi, popularly known as “Mr. Economy” and a candidate for the Kampala Central Division MP seat, has reaffirmed his commitment to integrity, accountability, and sustainable governance.

Speaking on NBS Barometer on Tuesday, Luzzi, a well-known advocate for fiscal responsibility and pragmatic leadership, emphasized that his campaign focuses on honesty and efficiency in public service, rejecting populist gestures and material incentives.

“It’s important not to demean past leaders; we should offer guidance instead,” Luzzi said, urging collaboration over confrontation among political figures.

Rejecting transactional politics, Luzzi, known for his humor and openness — and the now-famous catchphrase “Sarah is tall,” a playful nod to his wife Sarah Luzzi — declared he would not engage in superficial campaign tactics such as buying ambulances to gain political mileage.

“I’m not the kind of MP who’s going to buy ambulances — it is the government’s responsibility to deliver essential services, not individual politicians acting as philanthropists,” he explained.

Luzzi also highlighted his digital-first campaign strategy, describing it as an efficient, health-conscious way to engage voters. “Technology allows me to communicate directly and transparently with Kampala residents without disrupting their daily lives,” he said.

A resident of Kampala with strong grassroots connections, Luzzi positions himself as a representative of the people rather than a career politician. He has proposed rationalizing parliamentary salaries, reducing MPs’ earnings from Shs 40 million to Shs 10 million, fully taxable like other incomes.

“I want the people of Kampala to vote for me because of my honesty. If they don’t, I will return to my work. I know the city and its needs firsthand,” he added.

Luzzi’s vision for Kampala Central focuses on urban development, social empowerment, and sustainable infrastructure. He plans to pave major roads, install efficient drainage systems to prevent flooding, and implement solar-powered street lighting for public safety.

He also seeks to enforce building codes, improve waste management through recycling cooperatives, and promote green initiatives through tree planting and environmental awareness campaigns.

Beyond infrastructure, Luzzi aims to introduce tenant-friendly housing reforms, establish a National Enterprise Fund to reduce youth unemployment, provide scholarships for underprivileged students, and upgrade health centers to offer 24-hour services.

At the heart of his governance plan is the Luzzi Constituency Service Centre, a hybrid digital and physical hub designed to facilitate citizen engagement, community problem-solving, and responsive leadership.

Luzzi’s campaign is built on eight pillars addressing political integrity, economic discipline, justice system efficiency, urban development, administrative modernization, employment and tax compliance, accountability enforcement, and a dedicated plan for Kampala Central that envisions a special capital status with dedicated development funding.

Born to Hajj Badru Kafuuma of Kakiri Luwaga in Wakiso District and the late Hadijah Nantaba of Gomba District, Luzzi attended SOS Hermann Gmeiner Schools, Kawempe Muslim, Mityana Secondary, and Lubiri Secondary School. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement and Logistics Management from Nkumba University and is currently pursuing a Law Degree at Victoria University.

Outside politics, Luzzi is a successful entrepreneur. He founded Ssebo Food Industries Uganda Ltd and the Ssebo Pure Gold and Jewelry Center at Serena Hotel Kampala, with business interests extending to the DRC, South Africa, USA, Canada, UK, China, and the UAE.

He also runs a youth sports academy in Hammersmith, London, and previously served as Marketing and PR Head for Uganda Police Football Club.

Luzzi began his political journey as an NRM mobilizer in Mityana and Mubende, later contesting for Mityana Municipality MP in 2021 before choosing to run as an independent in Kampala Central.

As the 2026 General Elections approach, he faces competition from seasoned candidates including NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, NRM Kampala Minister Minsa Kabanda, UBF President Moses Muhangi, and Suzan Kushaba, all vying to succeed outgoing MP Muhammad Nsereko.

Yet, Luzzi’s emphasis on transparency, entrepreneurship, and practical leadership continues to attract voters seeking a fresh, solutions-driven voice in Kampala politics.
